A Legacy of Restorative Justice and Community Partnership

The North Carolina Teen Court Association was created for the purpose of serving as a link to bring all local Teen Court programs together as a unit. In order to do this effectively, the Association has worked to involve Association leadership, state government leadership, and local representation to provide knowledge and resources as it continues its mission.

Our Mission

Our goal is to promote, encourage, and support the development and implementation of Teen Court programs across North Carolina. We are proud to serve as a central source to unite Teen Court Programs across the state.

What is Teen Court?

Teen Court is a non-profit program that gives  11 to 17-year-old (18 if still in high school) age youth who have committed a misdemeanor offense a second chance while they take responsibility for their actions. Misdemeanor offenses, such as larceny, simple assault, affray, property damage, drug possession, alcohol possession, and others, are heard in Teen Court.

Using Restorative Justice

By utilizing restorative justice and youth-led programming, Teen Courts create a learning environment in which youth can grow their personal and professional development skills. From skills groups that aid in goal setting and positive decision-making to speaking in front of a courtroom as a youth attorney, Teen Court creates an environment of opportunities and resources for youth and young adults.
